Rather than run the risk of a public urination charge, now there’s an app for finding sweet relief (or offering it) in the city. CLOO, designed by Hillary Young, throws open the bathroom doors of friends and friends of friends “for the cost of a latte,” and that’s something we can all drink to, right?

PacMan returns to your area with a UFO!

Home Invasion is a location-based game for android devices.
Aliens invade your neighborhood and you are one of them! You control your spaceship by walking outside in your neighborhood. Yes! You have to go outside to play this game. To play, you need a constant GPS signal, a working internet connection and some nearby roads.

Your mission is to destroy all the targets that your overlords have placed. Those are indicated through green glowing dots. To destroy them you have to get them into your laser range. For each destroyed target you will get a point. But beware! Military is informed and trys to stop you. Don't get into the fire range of the tanks or they will destroy you.

The developer of this fun game first published it as a location-based version of PacMan (called PacMap) but was forced to remove it from the market due to copyright issues. The concept and gameplay hasn't changed that much however.

Founder Matt Galligan shows Simple Geo's new iPhone app that overlays lots of location-based data on top of a map. SimpleGeo makes building location-based apps like these easier.

The main screen shows you the names of your area, the local weather forecast,intersections and coördinates. The Places data in my area are sometimes outdated, but the Wikipedia, Project Noah, Geonames and Flickr layers work fine. Fast and accurate. A useful app!

Google makes Foursquare/Gowalla Check-in lookalike.

Google has finally hopped onto the check-in bandwagon, but with extra twists that make it more appealing than many of the other options.

Numerous other companies—Facebook, FourSquare, Gowalla, Yelp, BrightKite, Foodspotting etc.—also allow users to check in and share photos of the businesses they are patronizing, and people have already flocked to one (or more) of those services. Google is stepping up to the challenge, though, by making it painfully easy to check in through Latitude.

One of the main problems with check-in services is that they usually rely on the user to remember to check in whenever he or she enters a place—Google is addressing this by either letting users' phones automatically check in for them, or sending notifications to users to remind them to check in when the app detects that they have arrived somewhere.

Facebook's check-in service, also called Places, already lets businesses give discounts to users when they check in, so the idea isn't entirely novel. Still, Facebook implements it differently than Google probably would—the combo of Groupon-style "deal of the day" with location-based check-ins would at least differentiate Latitude from its competition

What's new in Google Maps 5.0?

Google just released Maps 5.0 for Android. MobileBurn shot a quick video of it running to demonstrate some of the new features, such as the 3D view, two-finger gestures, and electronic compass support.

Google Latitude bestaat al bijna twee jaar maar tot vandaag was deze app nog niet beschikbaar voor de iPhone (en iPad). Nu dus wel. Google heeft de app eindelijk in de App Store weten te krijgen.

De Google Latitude app werkt op alle versies van de iPhone, iPad en iPod Touch die geschikt zijn voor iOS 4. Daarmee vallen de iPhone 3G en 3G dus buiten de boot, evenals de eerste twee generaties van de iPod Touch.

Google Latitude is een zogenaamde location-based weet-waar-je-vrienden-zijn service.
